Knee Update!

I know you all are aware that I hurt my knee in March. I was doing yoga. I was on my hands and knees and heard a loud pop out of my right knee. The girl next to me even heard it. I have done Physical Therapy for four weeks, walked with the use of crutches, and worn several knee braces. None of that has made the pain go away. There are still days that it hurts to move my foot from the gas to the brake while driving. So last week I went to see a surgeon and he said that surgery is the next step. My doctor told me that I have some fluid behind the knee cap and with that there the muscle that holds the knee cap in place can't tighten up.

So on July 22 I will go in and have knee surgery. It will be done with a scope so it will be done outpatient. When I asked him how long I will be down and out for, he told me one day. I will be on pain pills for longer but one day and he wants me up and walking.

So there is the scoop so far. I am going to ask and see if they can scoop some fat out while they are in there. That would be awesome!

Tiny Triumphs 20!

The boys are out of school! We have had some good times this week! Summer school starts next week! The boys should have a blast in summer school, they are taking some awesomely fun classes. Ethan is going to learn German, French, and Spanish. Kellen is going to do some robotics stuff and some other gross science stuff too. I am not sure how I feel about him making fake vomit. I am sure I will find out.

1. Ethan got his cast off on Tuesday! He still has to wear a brace but he can get it wet. When we got home from the doctor's office we had one heck of a water balloon fight! Friday we are going to join the pool!

2. The gardens are growing so well!!!! They don't even look the same after only about two weeks! I will be taking pics tonight and posting them so you can see!

3. Ethan got back on a bike for the first time since he fell and broke his wrist! Way to go Ethan!!!

4. My crock pot has never worked the right way. It seemed to never cook anything well. Nothing got done, veggies were raw, roasts were ruined, and an awful smell like burning plastic would spread through the house. I never thought anything of the last one. I just figured it was the plastic lining on the lid. Well I bought a new one and it works well! Now when I went to toss the old one I saw that the plastic that was inside of the base was melting out. That was the smell of plastic that was always there. So I called the company to complain and they are sending me a new one!!. But the triumph is that the smell got so bad that I bought a new one instead of using the broken one again. I hate to give up on something that I bought. And there was no fire caused!

Have a good week!

More Room Was In Order!

When I got the plot at the community garden site, I thought "How will I ever fill up 32 squares?" Well, the answer is easily. I filled the plot very quickly. I did not even have room for everything that I wanted to put in. So I asked if there was another plot open at the site and there was not one available. So Jared built me one in the back yard. So now I have 64 square feet to fill and let me tell you it was easy! I even still have my name if someone does not want their plot, I will take it!Here is Jared building the frame. It is 8x4 so 32 square feet!
We laid down a layer of cardboard to kill the grass and keep the weeds out
Here is the frame near the cardboard
Pile of cow sh*t. We filled the frame with 38 cubic feet of cow crap.
All ready to be filled
Here we go!
I was not kidding about the cow crap. I am not sure why I needed to know that it was dairy cow poop but I did. Also, did you know that steer poop is more expensive than dairy cow poop?
Kellen was a HUGE help that day! He poured the bags of poop into the frame. I was going to say dumped but that seemed gross even for me!
Getting fuller
Kellen measuring the where we need to put the screws in to make the grid
All filled
Jared putting in the screws to make the grid
The grid is finished and now we are putting down the wood chips
Me with the finished planted garden! The boys did most of the planting!
The finished garden. Not bad for a day of work!

Community Garden!

I am using a plot at the community gardens. We are to use square foot gardening. What that means is you divide a space up into one foot squares. Then you plant an exact number of seeds or plants in each square. Like, you can put sixteen carrots or radishes per square but only one cauliflower or tomato per square. In theory you are supposed to get more out of a 4x4 square foot garden than you would out of a 10x10 regular garden. The reason that there are no rows. So there are no walk ways. You also use less seeds. In planting carrots I used 16 carrots. If you use a traditional garden you might use the whole pack of seeds. Then you have to think them, I won't have to do that. We will see how this goes.

I have a 4x8 foot garden plot. So I had thirty two squares to fill. I put some Nasturtiums in a few squares to keep the bunnies away. I plan to take more pictures and see how things go. I am holding my judgement on if this works til the end of the season. I will keep you posted! Here is my plot all planted

Here is the whole site! It now has a fence around it

Spring Band Concert!

A few weeks ago was Kellen's spring band concert. I am just now getting some time to put up the pictures. What can I say? It has been a busy few weeks! I was in awe of all that the kids and their teachers have accomplished in just a few short months. It actually sounded like music!! I could even tell what they were playing! We stuck around after the fifth graders were done and watched the sixth graders. I can't wait to see how Kellen does next year!!Ethan reading before the concert
Kellen getting ready to go on stage
We were told to dress the kids nicely and this was the kid sitting next to Kellen. I am still kind of mad that he showed up that way. It did make it fairly easy to spot Kellen with this sitting next to him
Kellen all red cheeked. The lights on stage were HOT!

Gone Fishin'!!!

June is dairy month in Wisconsin. Here in Marshfield we celebrate it with Dairy Fest. There is so much to do! Today we went to a parade, saw the UW marching band and went fishing. The boys had never been fishing before. They had a blast! The Lion's club here in Marshfield put on the fishing contest. I can't say enough about the great time we had today and how we will be doing it again next year!

Now, I paid a dollar for each boy to fish. Kellen had to catch five fish and Ethan had to catch three. The point was to catch the bull fish and not the other fish. The bull fish in the pond are over populated. The Lion's Club had fishing poles for my boys to use. When we were done fishing the kids got to pick a colored chip out of a bucket. That told them what kind of prize that they would get! Ethan won a fishing pole! He is so excited about it! I don't think that he has put it down all day. Kellen won a bus trip for two to the Waussau baseball game in July. Kate's son won the same thing and asked me to go with him, so Kellen asked Kate to go with him. Cute!Ethan fishing

Kellen and his first fish. It was a Bluegill and had to be thrown back

Kellen and another one of his fish. Kellen was loving this so much! He even was taking his own fish off the hooks! Which is a good thing since I would not do it!
Kate helping Ethan with his fish!

*Breaking News* This just in! I even put a worm on a hook today! I even ripped one in half cause it was too big for the hooks. YUCK!
